You Can't Waste A Sunny Day

Yesterday morning we woke up to a bluebird sky. Despite all of the home improvement jobs that are now backed up, I decided to take the boys to Anchorage to the Alaska Botanical Gardens. I just couldn't waste such an incredible day, especially because they have been so few and far between this summer. I also started a list of all of the grasses, bushes, flowers, etc. I want to use in my own perennial garden next year. Next year it's going to happen, right? Ummm...we'll see...

Only In Alaska

In order to prepare Mason for his first day of school, I was given at least a forest-worth of paperwork. One of the papers was the Recess Policy. I couldn't help but laugh outloud and thought it was perfect for an "Only In Alaska" post. I'm going to copy it word for word lest you think I made it up...

"When sending your child to school, we urge you to dress him/her according to the weather conditions. The children are expected to play outside at recess if the temperature of the chill factor is above negative 10 degrees. The child should be comfortable and protected from the inclement weather."

The other day while I was waiting at an eye doc appointment, I was flipping through a catalog of Fall classes offered at the local community college. I found my new career path. Again, I am just going to quote it:

The past couple of weeks have been chaotic. Since a picture is worth a thousand words, I pose the question what is the worth of a thousand pictures? (we have taken around a thousand pictures) - here is the (slightly) condensed version.

This picture comes to us from last fall, but worthy of a laugh. I went to the Palmer Fred Meyer and recognized the burley mountain man guy from the leather/fur shop in Palmer. This particular day it happened to be raining out, so what does the aforementioned grizzly adams do to keep his mane dry on a day wrought with liquid sunshine? How about a pink shower cap! I couldn't hold the camera very still for a ninja-like picture in passing, so this blurry one and your imagination will have to suffice.
